TV on the Radio Keeps Getting Better

Even though these Brooklyn art-rockers have been around for more than a decade, they somehow have released an album that rivals everything they’ve ever made, displaying expertise and skill that you know they couldn’t have produced as well a few years ago. TV on the Radio’s Nine Types of Light shines in a genre that regularly includes casual listening, background jams and delicate beats that can sometimes leave the listener more absorbed in their thoughts than the songs themselves. Their versatility over the years, with albums switching from minimalist a cappella in Young Liars to political anthems in Return to Cookie Mountain, culminates magnificently in their latest work, reminding us that even the best have room to grow. Writing music takes some very serious talent. It is an art of poetry that not many people can do so well.  The best songs, in my mind, are those that have the lyrics that cause you to think about serious issues and emotions.  When a song has lyrics that bring you to tears or smiling, or anything like that, then there is an artistic element that was included in the writing process.  You know at that point that the song was written for a purpose other than to become a number one hit.  It was written for meaning and love of art and music.  So many lyricists and writers today just want to create something that will reach the top of the charts, when really the art and meaning behind the words should be considered.  Here are some of the most poetic lyrics to songs and some background behind the words, the authors, and artists.
