The Importance of Music

In today’s world of budget cuts, our music education is often the first on the chopping block. People often question if it necessary, and what sort of benefit it has to our youth. To say that music is invaluable would be the greatest oversight in history. It is a foundation of progress, and self discovery for humans. It is not simply just a a specific set of intervals; it a language that can be communicated globally, that can evoke human emotions more efficiently than anything in the cosmos.

It started with Gregorian chanting, and the monks wishing to preserve these holy sounds, and develop a written language to pass the songs on. From the baroque, to classical, and romantic periods. Music thrived in the harshest of times. With composers like Beethoven, Mozart, and Bach inspiring the masses, and paving the way for a world that was richer. A world that could embrace the greatest qualities of man, and put them on display for the entire universe. (more…)
